Yoga Studies and Teacher Training
Inspired by the Viniyoga Teachings
(200 hours)

with Thia Ashonoah and Georg Feuerstein

September–November 2003, JanuaryApril 2004

One weekend a month for six months (or nine months for those enrolling also in the teacher training), we will come together to explore the Yoga tradition. Through discussion, group practices, lectures, experiential discovery sessions, private sessions, and home study, we will deepen our understanding of the physical body, the energy body, and the mind. The study of the history and philosophy of Yoga taught by Georg Feuerstein will root us in this ancient wisdom.

Viniyoga is based on the teachings of Shri Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar of Chennai, India. In this ancient system the condition, needs, and aspirations of each individual are recognized and respected. The profound intelligence of the teachings of Viniyoga helps us to deepen our self-awareness and personal transformation.

The outline for each month’s program is as follows:

September 2003: The Roots
Viniyoga Principles
Breath and Movement
Asana – Forward Bends and Backbends

October 2003: Unraveling
History and PhilosophyAsana – Laterals and Twists

November 2003: The Tools
The Art of Sequencing
Adaptation – Understanding Personal Need
and Appropriate Application

February 2004: Expanding

March 2004: The Subtle

This 200-hour program meets the National Education Standards of the Yoga Alliance. The program includes 160 classroom hours and 40 home and practice hours. Your commitment to attend 100% of the training is required in order to receive a Certificate of Completion. The sessions will be held at the historic Valley Ford Schoolhouse in Valley Ford, sixty miles north of San Francisco.
